The M6…fits LEICA glove.
Just like the old recordings of Jimi Hendrix there can be no doubt that film offers perfect imperfection.
I’ve spoken about this previously when comparing film to music. There can be no question that the note perfect shredders of today are hugely impressive but nothing quite lifts the hairs on the back of my neck as listening to the greats ( ….Pink Floyd, Zeppelin, Sabbath etc ) on record.
In the same way it’s the grain, light leaks, over/under exposure and chemical process that makes film so special. It’s for this very reason that five years ago I decided to save up and invest in arguably one of the best 35mm cameras ever made, the Leica M6. The M6, like my 1976 Fender Stratocaster, is battle scarred, has stories to tell but most importantly was built to last. Serviceable, all mechanical and ‘ fits LEICA glove ’. This camera has joined me on every adventure & expedition since the day I bought it and has been truly intrinsic to my development as a photographer. I wish I could put into words just how it feels to hold the M6 in my hands, to look through the rangefinder, pull back the film advance lever, set my parameters and commit. The almost silent shutter freezing another epic moment in time. In 2019 I dedicated myself to documenting all my adventures in 35mm and today I’m proud to share these stories below ( I might add there was an additional roll of film that I’ll be adding at a later date to complete the final road trip in the collection ).
