Road trip home
In this instalment I document a nine hundred mile road trip from the Lofoten Islands to the national parks of Southern Norway with one of my best friends Benjamin ( before I made the long journey from Oslo to Calais ). This would turn out to be the last van-based adventure up to the writing of this entry as my life, then the world itself, took one unforeseen turn to the next. This blog enjoys a week of vanlife perfection with one of my best friends through Norway before returning to the UK and months of unforeseen carnage…but that’s a story for another day.

Quick update:
The last nine months have been brutal. Vanlife is certainly not without its challenges and since my last road trip I’ve been navigating one disaster to the next. However, it has also been a massive learning curve and one that I intend to utilise moving forwards. Covid was just one of many obstacles this year that have thrown a spanner in the works and it’s nice to finally see Europe opening up once again for travel. At the end of 2019 I decided that I’d finally commit to building my dream Syncro and invested all of my savings into the process. As many of you will already know this was certainly not the first stage of the build and I’d spent years making improvements ( all of which are documented here: VANLIFE ). The problem with building my ‘ Dream Syncro ’ is that I soon realised it would never be finished as there’s always something to do. Thus, in recent months I’ve accepted that I just need to bring work to a close for now. I need to recognise a lot of progress has been made and that I should now take a break from the build til next year. I hear it time and time again. Invest in experience not things. I’ve always taken this approach but when the van is a large part in facilitating experiences it’s easy to get caught up in investing way too heavily into the build and leaving nothing to actually get out there and enjoy it. It feels good to have made more progress on my home-on-wheels in the last nine months than I have in the last five years combined. That said, I want to now slow things down and set a more rigid annual budget for upgrades and put a far greater emphasis on investing in experience. At this precise moment it’s very hard to say how life will play out in 2020. I will be heading back into Europe this year but for how long/far I don’t know due to concerns regarding a second wave of the pandemic. However, what I do know is the next chapter will be very exciting, stay tuned.
